Варвара Павлова “Лисокот”

Varya Pavlova (aka Lisokot) is the creator of the duet “BistrohodnayaOndatra” (fast-pacing muskrat), a poetic sound legend about the two maidens who left the social life and technocratic civilization and went away to the forest. This legend has appeared as a kind of protective shell, with the condition of understanding the inevitability of physical stay in the system, leading the human entity further and further from its natural essence.
Holding this idea and using her voice as the only instrument, the artist makes a sound-collage composed of her own poetry – as a reflection on the private and the public in present time, fragments from soviet songs – as a symbol of the utopian idea of freedom, equality and brotherhood from the past and spontaneous sound etudes, created with the simplest effects processor using simultaneous sampling.

In addition to her voice, Lisokot creates sounds from various nearby objects, including urban civilization waste – used plastic bottles, bags, and so forth, creating by their distortion a reality that is parallel to our common being.
During the live performances, collages never sound the same, but always loosing and than finding again their unsteady structure on the borders of chaos and order.
