The competition is open for architects, artists, designers, engineers, interdisciplinary groups, students of according institutions.
Registration fee – none
Prize: 1st prize – 60 000 roubles (1500 Eur) with consequent realization of the project according with the competition conditions.
30 best projects will be presented on the exhibitions in Vyksa city, Volga department of NCCA (Nizhny Novgorod) and State Museum of architecture named after Schusev, Moscow

New Culture Festival «Art-Ovrag» is honored to invite architects, artists, designers, engineers from all over the world to take part in the open competition BALANCING PAVILION. The competition is directed on improvement and reviving the city space, integration of architectural objects which form the base for interaction, as well as exhibiting and discussion of the works of art. The competition is aimed at development of principles of adaptive design under conditions of quickly developing city.
Under BALANCING PAVILION we understand the transformative, possibly mobile object which has one or several points of support, which can be installed in different locations throughout the city. This object can stand on the ground, but not on the base or the ribbon foundation; its part should be separated from the ground. In this case, we are giving maximum of freedom. The more original is the project, the better.
Function of the object – pavilion for exhibitions of contemporary art and holding the workshops. It has to be possible to use throughout the year, with period of service no less than 5 years.
The venue is selected by participant from suggested options. The pictures of suggested venues can be found in the Attachment №2.
In creation of the object one should consider the theme of the festival GARDEN CITY. TRANSFORMATION OF CITY ENVIRONMENT.
Parameters of the object:
Function: mini pavilion for holding the exhibitions and workshops. Area from 15m² to 30m², budget not more than 20 000 Eur. There can be used any materials and assembling technologies. The pavilion should be anti-vandal and easy in use.
Presentation of the projects:
Project suggestion should be placed on the sheet 1,06×750 mm with layout area 775×680 mm (vertical layout). Composition in accordance with the layout in Attachment 1.
The suggestion must include:
– Plans of the object in scale 1:50 or 1:25;
– Facades, cuts in scale 1:50 or 1:25;
– 3D visualisation (object may be integrated in one of panoramas in Attachment №2);
– Interior view;
– Description on Russian and / or English (maximum 1000 signs);
– Constructive details and joints (if necessary);
– Diagrams with scenarios of usage of the object (if necessary);
– Other materials of the participant’s choice.
The work should be sent to e-mail:firstname.lastname@example.org, with topic Balancing Pavilion and registration number of the participan, maximum size of a file 15mb. Names of the files should include the registration number. Formats of submission – pdf or jpeg. Resolution of all raster images not less than 300 dpi when printed 1:1 size.
For registration and allocation of identification number the participant must fill the Participant Questionnaire available at the link.
The competition is being held anonymously, the registration number is the only identification medium.
Official languages of the competition: Russian and English.
Organizers of the competition keep the right to amend the schedule in case of necessity.
WHO CAN TAKE PART IN THE COMPETITION?
It is an open international competition, anyone may suggest the project.
CAN WE SUGGEST MORE THAN ONE PROJECT?
Yes. In this case every project will have its own registration number.
IF THE PROJECT IS SELECTED FOR REALIZATION, IS THE LOCATION CHOSEN BY AUTHOR GUARANTEED?
The project and location will be confirmed with the city administration.
IS THE PROLONGATION OF REGISTRATION POSSIBLE?
No. The registration of the projects will be finished on March 30th.
WHERE WILL BE PUBLISHED THE RESULTS OF THE COMPETITION?
The best projects will be presented in several international printed issues and on the website of the festival. There will also be organised the exhibitions in the Vyksa museum and State Museum of Architecture named after Schusev, Moscow.
